Writing A Three Paragraph Essay About A Life Changing Event
In middle school and high school, you’ll have to write many essays, especially in English classes. Essay writing is a great way to help you develop and perfect your writing skills, as well as learn to think logically and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills. One of the most common types of essays that you’ll probably be asked to write is the three paragraph essay. This short writing format helps to teach the structure of a good, well-written, and informative paper, including an introduction, body, and conclusion. One of the most popular topics for this type of paper is to write about something that happened to you in your life. Everyone has life changing experiences, and even if you’re still very young, there’s probably been an event in your life that had a significant impact on who you are as a person. In some cases, you might specifically be given an assignment to write about your life, but even if you have a free choice of topic, it’s still a good idea for a paper.
Writing and Structuring Your Paper
Like any paper, an essay about a life-changing event follows a basic, almost universal structure: introduction, body, and conclusion.
- Introduction. This part of your paper introduces your topic to your audience. It should be about a paragraph long, and provide the general background that frames the main content of the paper. In most types of writing, the introduction is distinguished by a thesis statement that provides a clear, concise summary of the overall subject of the paper. However, when you’re writing about your personal life, this might not actually be necessary. For a paper about a life-changing event, you’ll want to inform your audience about what the event in question was.
- Body. This is the part of the paper where you go into detail about what happened to you, what circumstances led up to it, and how it changed your life. For a three-paragraph essay, you’ll only need one solid body paragraph. Like the paper as a whole, the body should have a clear introduction, followed by the main content. In many cases, you will also want to include a conclusory sentence.
- Conclusion. The conclusion ties back into the introduction, restating your main idea and recapitulating the information you covered in the body. Good papers often form a “full circle,” with the conclusion tying back into the beginning to help make the paper feel more like a cohesive whole.
